Nia Lynn’s Bannau Trio perform music from

                                           ‘Points of View’

“An elegant display of craft within a demandingly exposed format.” – The Guardian
“Pristine vocals with a strong technical command.” – Marlbank
A fresh and original sound; beautiful music from three of the best musicians on the British scene.
-Norma Winstone

Points of View is the debut WWR release from vocalist and composer Nia Lynn and her Bannau Trio, which features the world-renowned flautist Gareth Lockrane and star pianist Ross Stanley. The album (which features guest Norma Winstone) was one of the most standout and original vocal releases on the UK scene in 2013 and features nine sparkling songs written by Lynn, with unique interpretations of covers from Ralph Towner, Tom Waits, Nikki Isles and more. Lynn is known as one of the UK’s most creative vocalists and emotive songwriters, with the ability to sing deeply personal self-penned compositions to counterpointing lines alongside some of the most advanced instrumentalists on the scene, a true ‘musician’s vocalist.’ Lynn and her Bannau Trio have been quietly ploughing their own path in the contemporary chamber jazz world since 2005, while drawing heavy influence from the ‘singer songwriter tradition’ which ties in with Nia’s love of lyric craft and poetry (she is also a published poet).

Patrick Cornelius

Patrick Cornelius’ Quartet w/ special guest Alex Garnett plays music from

‘Infinite Blue’

“A dynamic New York altoist.” – The Guardian
“A self-assured young saxophonist in the postmodern mainstream.” -The New York Times

Patrick Cornelius is no stranger to UK audiences, having toured extensively across the British Isles for well over a decade. Infinite Blue is the second album for Whirlwind Recordings by the award-winning New York-based saxophonist and composer, and represents the refinement of melodic concepts that he has been exploring for years (and over the course of 3 previous solo albums). Every song written for this new release tells a discrete story, either from the composer’s personal experience or some corner of his imagination. To bring such specifically programmatic music to life, he enlisted an A-List of musicians with a keen ability to accompany and improvise with an ear towards musical narrative, including pianist Frank Kimbrough, trumpeter Mike Rodriguez, trombonist Nick Vayenas, bassist Michael Janisch and drummer Jeff Ballard.

Tonight he is joined by three truly world class musicians in WWR label boss Michael Janisch on double bass, NY-based drummer Paul Wiltgen (Dave Binney, Kurt Rosenwinkel) and piano star Ross Stanley (Seamus Blake, Lianne Carroll, Stan Sulzman).  Excitedly, special guest saxophonist Alex Garnett (Rolling Stones, Wynton Marsalis) will be joining the proceedings on a few numbers.
