30th December 2013: Review from The Jazz Mann & All About Jazz for Romain Pilon’s ‘Colorfield’ PLUS Album in Jazz Breakfast’s Festive 50

romain_pilon_cover_colorfieldRomain Pilon debut WWR release Colorfield earlier this year which gained two 4 star reviews from The Jazz Mann and and Marlbank and described by The Jazz Breakfast as “a wonderfully relaxed breath of fresh air. A lovely unassuming album which doesn’t need to impress, it’s just happy to be, and is all the more fulfilling for it.”

We now have in a 4 star review from The Jazz Mann who describe the album as “an understated gem” continuing to say that “Pilon realises his vision superbly, there’s a clarity and unity of purpose about this album, a sustained aesthetic that makes it a perfect mood piece”. The review finishes off by stating that “the playing from all four protagonists is excellent throughout, undemonstrative but always skilful and intelligent with an underlying sense of really serving the music. In its own way a quiet masterpiece.”

Also in is a review from All About Jazz  that say that “‘color field painting places less emphasis on movement, gesture … and action in favour of an overall consistency of form and process.’ It’s a description that captures much of the flavor of Colorfield the album.”

Colorfield is also featured in The Jazz Breakfast’s ‘Festive 50‘.
