16th June 2011: Phil Robson set to release next album on WWR, featuring the iconic Mark Turner!
First call European Guitarist Phil Robson is a house hold name to UK Jazz fans and beyond– he’s worked with the who’s who of both UK and US jazz musicians, and we are very pleased to announce that he will be releasing his next album ‘The Immeasurable Code’ right here on Whirlwind Recordings. Phil is equally respected as a strikingly original composer, who draws from an enormous palette of influences as the result of a varied career working across the musical spectrum. The music for his next album was commissioned earlier in ’11 by ‘Derby Jazz’ and a 2 week tour ensued in January of the UK, featuring an all star band with Downbeat Critic Poll Flautist Gareth Lockrane, Cuban/NYC/London drummer and world renown percussionist Ernesto Simpson, first call US bassist Michael Janisch holding the low notes, and the pre-eminent saxophonist of his generation, the one and only Mark Turner. The tour in itself was a huge success and very well received, but luckily the final 3 performances were all recorded live, and the best of these gigs will be put down on record for a late ’11 release. Stay tuned for this very exciting release, which already has been hinted at being one of the most highly anticipated albums of the year in the UK.
