3rd October 2012: Nick Vayenas with glowing 4 Star review in Jazz Journal for OCT.
Nick Vayenas released his self titled album with us in early June and since has had airplay on over 400 radio stations worldwide and has developed a fan base that has reached beyond the borders of the typical niche-market jazz, improvised and creative music spheres we all operate in. His album showcases his vocal, trumpet, and trombone skills alongside a heavyweight ‘who’s who’ cast of NYC’s finest performers in Blue Note recording artist and star guitarist Lionel Loueke, WWR Patrick Cornelius on saxes, Terence Blanchard’s drummer Kendrick Scott, Dan Kaufman on piano, and everyone’s favorite bassist Vicente Archer holding it down on the bottom end. The album features a pristine recording quality and was engineered, mixed and mastered by the 3 x Grammy nominee Tyler McDiarmed (our in house WWR sound guy!).
The album features a good helping of both original music from Vayenas and his interpretations on some classic songs from the American songbook, and we’re excited to report that he’s had a glowing review in Jazz Journal Magazine (covering jazz news since 1948!!) for the month of October. A highlight from the review states ‘This is one of the most impressive of recent Whirlwind issues, showcasing a multi-talented individual likely to appeal to a wide constituency of jazz fans.”
