8th April 2013: Major press update for Aruan Ortiz & Michael Janisch’s ‘Banned in London’ 4 1/2 Stars in Downbeat for May 2013, glowing reviews from Japan, Step Tempest, 4 Stars in Winnipeg Free Press, and the Latin Jazz Network
Banned in London is the debut album from the Aruan Ortiz & Michael Janisch Quintet (pictured left outside the historic St. George’s in Bristol before a sold out concert last Nov) which features the iconic saxophonist Greg Osby alongside Spanish trumpeter Raynald Colom, with support from the first call NYC drumming sensation that is Rudy Royston. The album launched in OCT of last year worldwide excluding USA Stores and as of January it has been launched stateside and the press has been through the roof. Features in the NY Times hit first and now we’ve just found out the very exciting news that the album has received a 4 1/2 star review in Downbeat Magazine for their May 2013 issue which we reprint below. If that’s not enough in itself, the press has been coming in farther than the US and under this review we’ve posted the latest praise from Jazz Life Magazine all the way from Japan, and online you can read some heavy praise from Step Tempest, Latin Jazz Network and 4 Stars from The Winnipeg Free Press. Some pretty amazing things have been said about this special release, and we’ve completely updated the press highlight sections on our shiny new album page for Banned in London here.
