Jeff Williams (L)

Profile

Drummer Jeff Williams has enjoyed a forty-year career performing alongside some of the greats of the London and New York scenes. His most recent release, Live at London Jazz Festival: Road Tales marks his sixth on Whirlwind, on which he reunites with his established UK-based quartet (Williams, Josh Arcoleo, Sam Lasserson and John O’Gallagher) for an exploration of bop-informed originals.

Williams is closely associated with Dave Liebman and Richie Beirach, with whom he formed the group Lookout Farm in 1971. Frequent collaborators in New York included Stan Getz and Lee Konitz. For the last fifteen years Jeff has been dividing his time between New York and London, touring and performing alongside Bill McHenry, Phil Robson, Nikki Iles, Kit Downes, Julian Arguelles and Norma Winstone. He has released six albums for Whirlwind: Road Tales, Bloom, Lifelike, Outlier, The Listener and Another Time.

In addition to performing commitments, Jeff is a committed and passionate educator who has given masterclasses, directed ensembles and undertaken one-to-one drum instruction at The New School, Long Island University, the University of Connecticut, and Maine Jazz Camp. He currently teaches at two of the UK’s top music colleges, the Royal Academy of Music and Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
