30th April 2013: Euan Stevenson and Konrad Wiszniewski’s ‘New Focus’ Announced on Long-List For 2013 Scottish Album of the Year Award + New Review In For Robert Mitchell’s ‘The Glimpse’ – The Guardian / Marlbank
Big news has reached us at WWR today as we hear that Euan Stevenson and Konrad Wiszniewski’s New Focus has gained the long-list for the 2013 Scottish Album of the Year Award (aka the SAY awards, the Scottish equivalent to the Mercury prize).
The SAY awards are “a new and ambitious national prize established to reward and promote the creativity and diversity of art in Scotland”. It’s a prize worth £20,000 to the winner, with the shortlist being announced at the end of May and then the winner itself on 20 June. Check out the SAY site where you can hear New Focus’ Nicola’s Piece (site pictured below) and Marlbank’s review of the news here, as well as in the Scotsman and the Herald. Congratulations to Euan and Konrad as we wish them luck with the awards.
ALSO in today, adding to a plethora of high praising reviews, another has reached us for our Feb. 2013 release – Robert Mitchell’s The Glimpse. The Guardian announces that “The Glimpse’s delicacy and sparing intensity is often very affecting.” The track ‘Leftitude’ (the title of which was used for Robert’s left-hand only piano festival held at The Forge in London earlier this year) was recently played on BBC Radio 3 Jazz Line-Up of 31 March.
