6th January 2015: Bobby Avey and the ‘Authority Melts From Me’ DEC Euro tour synopsis, live reviews from Jazzwise, The Guardian, Financial Times, UK Vibe and more
Bobby Avey’s Authority Melts From Me tour in December has received a huge amount of great coverage from the press. If you were at the shows you’ll know they were special and we thank all those who came out. It was not uncommon by the end of the tour to hear from both fans and promoters that Bobby’s tour was a highlight of their concert year. We’d like to thank all the folks who were so enthusiastic on social media as well.
Award winning composer and musician George Colligan (who was at the Birmingham CBSO Center performance) said on his popular ‘the jazz truth’ blog: “A young composer named Bobby Avey recently released an album entitled “Authority Melts From Me.” This is a large form suite which is inspired by the Haitian Uprising; Avey actually traveled to Haiti and recorded actual voodoo ceremonies, transcribed them, and used the musical and political inspiration to create some incredibly intense music. Pianist Avey and his all star band of Miguel Zenon on alto saxophone, Ben Monder on guitar, Jordan Perlson on drums, and bassist Michael Janisch created a dense musical jungle full of dense chromaticism and brain-bending odd meters.”
The nine date tour commenced in London on 2nd December and featured Miguel Zenon, Ben Monder, Michael Janisch and Jordan Perlson.
