Alex Hitchcock (L)
Profile
London-born Alex Hitchcock is an instantly recognisable improviser and a leading international voice on the saxophone. An Ivor Novello-nominated composer, his innovative collaborations highlight his reputation as a catalyst for boundary-pushing musical encounters.
Described by The Guardian as a “virtuoso,” Alex tours and records with world-class musicians in his DREAM BAND series, with Live in London earning Jazzwise Editor’s ‘Album of the Year’ and inclusion in All About Jazz’s ‘Must Haves’. His writing, inspired by black-American music, combines instrumental mastery with a clarity of vision praised as “exquisitely subtle” (All About Jazz) and “startlingly vivid” (Marlbank).
His Same Moon collaboration series with guitarist Ant Law, inspired by Haruki Murakami’s Sputnik Sweetheart, features remote recordings with Joel Ross, Shai Maestro, Linda May Han Oh, Kendrick Scott, and others.
Equally at home collaborating with London’s resurgent jazz trailblazers or jazz elders like Kirk Lightsey, Alex performs globally at venues and festivals such as Ronnie Scott’s, North Sea Jazz, Umbria Jazz, and Love Supreme.
