Tim Garland and Jason Rebello have worked at the forefront of British jazz for over 30 years, and originally developed a rapport at London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Over the thirty years of friendship they have toured, shared and recorded music which has spurred their artistic growth as separate artists and as band members. On Life to Life, they decided it was time to focus their long-honed rapport in a series of duet recordings, featuring Garland on tenor, soprano and sopranino saxophone and bass clarinet, and Rebello on piano. This acoustic duo is a testament to a long lasting friendship and pursuit of musical depth, humour, soulful melancholy and exhilaration. Along with several brand new works from both artists are stunning renditions of timeless classics they’ve been playing for years.
”True rapport,” Garland says, ”evolves gradually in the same way that a garden is grown – its development is a process that cannot be forced or rushed, and the result is precious,” And for the Buddhist in Jason Rebello, that title has other resonances, reflecting his belief that we may live many lives. ”I find the idea that people we know may well have been with us in past lives and may well be with us in the future, both comforting and quite awesome,” he suggests. “So maybe we travel through existences, learning and hopefully growing in wisdom and love.”
The duo has many concerts planned for 2023, but for now we’re able to share these upcoming dates:
Nov 25th – Granary, Cambridge
Jan 21st – St Martin, In Fields – Official Launch Party
The album also features liner notes by the Guardian’s John Fordham.
Stay tuned for singles and more info, coming soon.
