27th October 2013: Reviews for Romain Pilon’s Colorfield from The Blue Moment & The Jazz Breakfast
“highly recommended” – The Jazz Breakfast
Romain Pilon’s Colorfield recently launched on WWR and today we have in some glowing reviews with the first from The Blue Moment who state that “here is an hour of music in which substance triumphs over style. The tunes are attractive and varied but never flamboyant and they inspire solos which have no ambition beyond a thorough exploration of their themes and structures.”
They continue with saying that Romain “plays with a small, rounded, soft-edged tone reminiscent of the great Jim Hall, and uses absolutely no effects other than his great ear for harmonically acute, melodically elegant, rhythmically fluid improvisation” and “all in all, highly recommended.”
The second review in today is from The Jazz Breakfast who announce the album as “wonderfully relaxed breath of fresh air” and continuing with describing it as “a lovely, unassuming album which doesn’t need to impress; it’s happy just to be, and is all the more fulfilling for it.”
