29th May 2012: WWR artists George Crowley, Euan Burton, and Zhenya Strigalev in this month’s Jazzwise with featured articles & reviews
A strong showing of three WWR artists (George Crowley, Euan Burton, and Zhenya Strigalev) in the June 2012 issue of Jazzwise Magazine— all three get great reviews, and Zhenya also get’s a featured article for his album ‘Smiling Organizm’ which launches next week. Zhenya is always full of unique insight, and this interview is a great read. Here’s some highlights from the coverage:
George Crowley’s ‘Paper Universe’ review: “Rarely does a player so young debut with such a fully rounded tone and range of writing skills, so keep a keen ear out for Crowley: the future could yet be his.” Click here to view the ‘Paper Universe‘ album page.
Euan Burton’s ‘Occurrences’ review: “The contemporary Scottish jazz scene is rich in talent, but it boasts few more accomplished bassists than Euan Burton… [Occurrences] is a suite that smoothly unfolds its musical narrative across seven different parts… the playing dynamic and handsomely attuned to the cinematic feel of the project.” Click here to view the ‘Occurrences‘ album page.
Zhenya Strigalev’s ‘Smiling Organizm’ review: “[Smiling Organizm] has all the knife-edge momentum and skilled improvisatory abandon of its leader… chock-full of playful twists and turns, Strigalev’s UK debut is what you might call a real cliche-free ride.” Click here to view the ‘Smiling Organizm‘ album page.
