27th May 2012: Partikel with great review for ‘Cohesion’ from Danish Jazz Blog JazzNYT

Partikel, one of the UK’s most talked about new bands, has just received a great review by the popular Danish jazz blog site ‘JazzNYT’ for their inaugural WWR Jan ’12 release ‘Cohesion.’  This is a shared review alongside the world renown trio ‘Fly’ so the guys are pretty excited to be mentioned in the same breath as this super trio that we all at WWR also look up to greatly.

Here’s a link to the review, which is in Danish, and we’ve also re-printed what ‘google’ translated below.

An American and an English sax-trio.
The US is with three musicians as that are not unkonwn in Denmark. For example, We had saxophonist Mark Turner playing this past week in Copenhagen. Bassist Larry Grenadier is to be found among teachers at this year’s summer session and drummer Jeff Ballard was here last year. Fly trio plays with a transparent openness. It is audibly bemused music. In a totally flat structure, the three musicians play as equal. They welcome all in and meet in the music with very little focus on the solo game. Instead, it is collectively a victory on the slick audio production from Avatar studio in New York.
The English trio offers a different and more condensed mood. It could be – a little fresh – claim that there is a straight line back to Rollins’ classic saxtrio in the 50s. Partikel uses it as an impetus for a dynamic and forward-looking proposal for what a saxtrio may sound like today. There are elements of African music, Latin American jazz and contemporary jazz. This trio is incredibly tight in their expression. It is three musicians who know each other well and they use it as a starting point for their complex breaks and technically demanding compositions. It is both fast-paced and engaging.
