WWR founder Michael Janisch has teamed up with long time musical associate Aruan Ortiz, a cuban native currently residing in NYC, to front a super group quintet featuring the one and only Greg Osby on alto saxophone, Spanish trumpet maestro Raynald Colom, and First call NYC resident drummer Rudy Royston.
The band recorded both houses of their sold out performances at the London Jazz Festival at the Pizza Express Jazz Club on NOV 11, 2011. The music is being prepared as we as speak and the group is currently planning two tours for later in 2012. The album will be called ‘BANNED IN LONDON’ Live at the London Jazz Festival at Pizza Express, and features the band at the peak of their powers having up to the point of recording performing nearly two weeks of shows around Europe. Exploration, soundscapes, moods, and extreme chance taking are all in this music and what this group is about. They use the compositions as platforms for sonic searching, much aligned in concept with such groups as the Wayne Shorter Quartet, from whom Janisch and Ortiz draw great inspiration.
