8th January 2014: 4 Star Review from the Scotsman, Reviews from Jazz Camera, York Press, Dan Paton, The Guardian PLUS Airplay on Soul and Jazz & BBC Radio 3 Jazz Line-Up for Andre Canniere’s 2nd WWR Release ‘Coalescence’
A plethora of reviews and airplay in today for Andre Canniere’s latest release Coalescence with a 4 star review from The Scotsman, reviews from Dan Paton, Jazz Camera, The Guardian, York Press and airplay from BBC Radio 3’s Jazz Line-Up and Soul and Jazz.
The 4 star review from The Scotsman says that “the American-born trumpeter has emerged as one of the most compelling artists on the current London jazz scene, and this follow-up to his acclaimed Forward Space more than justifies that claim. His rich and flexible tonal range and highly inventive improvisations are supported by a powerful quintet”.
Dan Paton, who has listed the album in his top albums of 2013, states that Andre’s second album “shows him to be an evolving, forward thinking talent… the music is urgent and groovy but full of compelling contrasts too” continuing to say that “Canniere’s engagement here with themes – the constant movement of the musician, US gun crime, protest and place – gives his music additional resonance and depth.”
York Press say that “this an album of peerless musicianship and terrific production” with Jazz Camera stating that the album has “an attractive mellowness as well as some superb moments of musical fire” finishing by saying that “there’s fine playing by the whole group throughout this appealing CD.”
Also in is a review from The Guardian who say that “the compositions are audaciously crafted works from an imaginative newcomer, and the playing is just as good.” Coalescence has also recently received airplay on BBC 3’s Jazz Line-Up and Soul and Jazz radio.
